Best education for autism in southeast virginia:
Wendy Fitch and her staff utilize the latest in multi-disciplinary modeled approach to help each individual child succeed. My son Corey was the first graduate, and when others gave up on him, she didn't. Her staff of dedicated professionals do amazing thing on a shoestring budget. If you are looking go no further than here. At times you may feel lost as a parent, but the"team approach" is very well utilized and her wisdom coupled with her amazing intelligence and resourcefulness are only surpassed by her dedication to her job which is the children. I would encourage you to engage her with good ideas and possible solutions, but be open to her expert advice, don't be the "know it all parent" I've seen too many parents do this and it just muddies the waters. Allow her to assess, allow her to freely show you what can and can't be done and if she can't, she'll tell you why. She will never leave you hanging or your child. She is open to exchange of ideas, but not insults or a parent who challenges her abilities when they themselves don't have the "skill set" to understand what they are talking about. So again, thus is the best program in the state bar none. Trust me I know as a parent, advocate and educator myself of what I speak. And as far as an "ABA therapist, teacher, business person, entrepreneur and human being., you won't find better. I love ya rivers bend academy....Dr. Darwyn Dearing

Look elsewhere!:
This is a 39K a year day care center. Avoid. Grew too fast to maintain quality. Ignores input from parents on what is effective for their child. Bought by some corporation a few years back and it shows. Founder/director has filled the employee roster with her relatives and that is usually poison. Will call a parent a "b@!%h" when the mood strikes them. Says one thing and does another. Would give ZERO stars if I could. Dumped our kid on the street without IEP process. Failed to address behavioral issues despite guidance from effective home therapists. If you want your child to live the next 70 years in an institution, apply here.
