Lack of Knowledge and Helpfulness:
It's pretty pathetic when the main feed store in "Chickentown USA" doesn't recognize coccidiosis, when you tell them that the chick you bought two days ago has bloody diarrhea. Pretty sad when they tell you that Tetracycline is vitamins. . . oh no, electrolytes. . . Ridiculous when they suggest that maybe the baby chick just ate some tomatoes, or that someone who says she lives on a chicken farm says she has never seen bloody droppings in her life.
I went to buy chicks for my kids to raise, a novice chicken owner, and felt like the person helping me knew less than I did. I should have listened to my instincts.
Someone there the same day told me that the parakeets in back had some kind of cancer, but would be treated soon and I could check back to buy one.
I'm not making this up!
Will they take the chick back? Yes, but I can't get my money back. Will they give me medication free of charge? No.
Pretty bad business practices in a small town full of agriculture.
To add insult to injury, I got a boxcutter blade in my tire in the parking lot and had to spend $150 to replace my tire!
Fortunately, Penngrove Hay and Grain is close by, and they were incredibly helpful. . . solving the problems of animals sold by someone else! Go there, it is worth the short drive!
