Tips

Where to Sit: Request the coveted booth, Table 11, which seats four next to the large tropical fish tank. Or table 22, another popular choice where comfy couches and a coffee table sit adjacent to the fireplace for a romantic setting, but isn't conducive for dining.

When to Go: Happy hour specials include half off all tapas and sushi rolls, everyday from 4pm to 6pm in the sushi bar and patio.

Female manager was the worst I have ever seen:
I visited this restaurant a few years back and the horrible sight I saw has stuck with me ever sense and I have never been back. There was a female manager working that was one of the most unprofessional people I have seen manage a restaurant. I educate business managers for a living and the way I saw her treating her staff and others really irked me. The food was not anything special more or less typical La Jolla standards.

This 1897 inn, with its English country-house decor and antique furnishings, is one of the premier inns of South Carolina. The contemporary dining room, done in wood tones and accented with a tropical fish tank, Buddhas, and other Asian statuary, has a row of comfortable booths along one wall. It can get noisy when crowded; tables near the bar are generally quieter. Order the imaginative Euro-Asian tapas as...

Ten-plus years later, Sami Ladeki's Roppongi is still popular, though it has slipped in service and innovation. Locals crowd in for happy hour deals, which are a good value, but it has lost its fine-dining appeal. The settings still prove…

At Roppongi, the cuisines of Japan, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Korea, and India collide, sometimes gracefully, in a vibrant explosion of flavors. You might not get past the first menu page, a long list of tapas designed for sharing; each table is preset with a tall stack of plates that quietly encourages a communal meal of successive appetizers. You can jump from Thai satay and Chinese...
