Lunch is more important to Dr.Ross than his patients LIFE:
If I could give less stars I would, I would personally shut this Vet down if I could. PLEASE READ IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR PET AT ALL. WORTH THE READ I PROMISE.
Was recommended to Dr. Ross by family, said they've been to him before in the past for what I needed to have done with my dog, Koa, who was healthy as ever and only 3 years old. Went to Dr. Ross for the first time to have him check out Koa's eyes because they were extremely irritated. Dr. Ross confirmed he would needa a an entropion surgery for his eyes and that he has performed the surgery many times and even on his own dogs, and that it was a "very simple routine surgery" he seemed very confident with it and although he only spent no more than 5 minutes with us he made me feel comfortable. Also stated koa would need a breathing tube during the surgery because his breed (English Bulldog) had a hard time breathing on their own.
Dropped Koa off the next week and they had me fill out two papers, one asking if I would like blood tests performed, and the other paper authorizing the surgery and understanding that ethically and professionally no guarantee not warranty can be made regarding the results or cure from the procedure, never under the impression that death could be a result since I'm not a vet I wouldn't know. Finished the papers and left, expecting to pick Koa up after I got off work.
At 1:21 pm I got a call from Dr. Ross simply saying Koa died and he doesn't know what happened and to come in and we could talk about what happened. The doctor told me and my friend to come back to a room where I assumed we would talk about what happened, and without any warning or heads up he walks us into a room where my little best friend laid lifeless on the table looking like they just left him there. Wasn't covered up or anything. I couldn't even stand to look at Dr. Ross, and he stated that the surgery went perfect, he woke up from anesthesia fine, and that they checked in him every 5 minutes and he had just stopped breathing at 12:45 and they attempted to resuscitate him for 20 minutes but couldn't. Said he would do anything to make it right. I was too shaky and emotional to speak so my friend did the speaking back and forth for me. I told him I wanted Koa cremated because I wanted him at home with me where he belongs and Dr. Ross said he could have it done by the end of the week, which would be 5 days as it was only Monday. And I was pushy and wanted him home by the next day.
Dr. Ross was very quick to offer to buy me a new dog, but NOT ONCE offered me an autopsy to find out what happened, which I would have never thought of having done at that moment giving what had unexpectedly happened. Even if it was at my own expense I would have paid for the autopsy hands down I would just want to know what happened.
The next day I went back in to pick up Koa's ashes and I asked for a copy of all the paperwork I had filled out and any logs they took during the procedure and, although I did not pay for anything, seeing as how Koa died in their professional care with no explanation, I asked for a receipt of what I would have paid for if he had still been alive, showing each individual item I had paid for including the anesthesia type and amount they had dosed Koa with. The nurse told me it would take at least an hour to make the copies, which I thought was strange, but ok, and I had a friend pick them up for me later that day. When I got the copies back, there was no copy of a receipt and some one the logs were not filled out. The log showed that Koa had gotten out of surgery at 11:20, and that his breathing tube was quickly removed at 11:40. And that he passed at 12:45.
I went back in 2 days later and spoke with Dr. Ross and his nurses and said that I specifically asked for those papers and a copy of the receipt. Dr. Ross got a very rude tone with me and said well you didn't pay for anything. And i stated that it didn't matter I had a right to know what Koa was dosed with and how much. He kept getting smart with me saying it was in the copies I had already gotten, so I demanded another copy right then and there so he could show me himself where in the copy incase I had missed it. When he came out and handed me the copy, it was the exact same copy I had gotten previously, except this time this copy was filled out with what they had dosed him with and how much.
The next week the I asked the nurse who was there when Koa died. She said her and the other nurse and that Dr. Ross returned from lunch at 1pm. 15 minutes after Koa had stopped breathing. He went to lunch instead of making sure Koa made a full recovery and now I lost my best friend way before it was his time. Had Dr. Ross actually been there when Koa stopped breathing he might still be alive, but he took that chance from Koa when he decided that his lunch break was more important that Koa's life. Please don't take your pet to Dr. Ross, hes negligent, rude, and doesn't seem to care about his patients at all.
