Old and neglected:
During my viewing of the apartment before signing the lease, Chuck, the owner of the apartments, complained that people don't tell him when things are broken and try to fix things themselves. I accepted that excuse for the broken light fixtures, broken doors, and so on. The fixtures and the appliances were very old, but I could live with that. For the price, I was impressed with the size of the apartment and the fact that it was a bi-level home with a patio space. Chuck promised to have everything fixed soon after I moved in. I happily signed the lease.

Of course, very few things got fixed. There were plenty of things to be fixed because it seemed that very little was updated on the 1978 complex. When they did get fixed, it happened after months of reminders and promises. There was no on-site maintenance. Chuck did everything himself and lived about an hour away. He didn't keep regular office hours. Whenever there was an apartment emergency, I was better off staying with a friend than waiting for it to be fixed. He brought his large dog that shed in the apartment.

The landscaping was sparse and not maintained. There was dust and sand everywhere, so it often made its way into the apartment. The laundry room was always flooded and the dryers didn't dry my clothes.

Luckily, I found another apartment with better maintenance at least as big in the same price range. Siesta Village definitely doesn't have the response time and care as an apartment run by a decent management company.
