Incompetent practitioner!:
My wife and I are trying to have a baby so we set up an appointment for a semen analysis. I went to the doctor’s office, paid my co-pay and saw the doctor. She wrote me a prescription for semen analysis and gave me a sample cup. I was told it had to be turned into any LabCorp location within 1 hour of collection. This sounded reasonable and I assumed I was giving the sample there. So I did my business in my car in a parking lot and went to LabCorp.
Once I arrived at the LabCorp location, I was told I was supposed to have the sample in a bio-hazard bag (so she provided one) and that there is only one LabCorp location that can do semen analysis, on the other side of town. 40 minutes later I arrive at the main LabCorp location. When I went to give them my sample, I was informed that the only semen analysis that they perform is post vasectomy and that I would need to see a fertility specialist for the type of semen analysis I was looking for. The lab manager asked to see the prescription I had been given and she called the doctor’s office.
When the appointment for semen analysis was made, the doctor’s office did not ask if I had had a vasectomy. No additional questions were asked at all.
After I left LabCorp I called the doctor’s office. I was told that the doctor was busy. The office manager told me that I was supposed to call the lab prior and that the sample was to be done there. I asked why I was given a sample cup by the doctor with instructions to “deliver (my sample) to lab within 1 hour of collection” and to “avoid excessive heat or cold when transporting.” He said he wasn't there so he didn't know. He then said that the doctor would be able to set me up with an appointment at a fertility clinic.
Since I clearly didn't receive the services I had requested and they weren't even able to provide the correct type of semen analysis, I asked for a refund of my co-pay. I was told that since I saw the doctor they would not refund my money. In summary, wife had me on probation for 2 days prior, I wasted half of my day, half a tank of gas, and my $20 co-pay. I was misinformed by the doctor and their office staff.
I feel as though all they wanted was my money and don’t care at all about providing quality services since I am in the same situation I was in BEFORE seeing the doctor. If they are supposed to be the ones that know how this process works then they need to work on communicating that to the patient. What a waste of my time and money – WORST DOCTOR OFFICE EVER.
