Compassionate, professional care. Perfect:
This is an amazing clinic, with techs who know their stuff. I have taken several of my creatures to Dr. Slocum and his staff, and he is amazing. He walked me gently and sweetly down the path of making my (tremendously old) cat comfortable when he passed.
I have never forgotten the way he spoke to me, clearly, softly, and honestly. He asked me what I wanted.
When my cat passed, there was true honor and sorrow in the eyes of the compassionate staff. When I brought in my new kitten the next year, I knew she was sick, and we were appropriately confined so that we would not spread her infection throughout the other pets in the building.
I work in a hospital OR, and I have seen the operating room at Hazel Dell Animal Hospital. It's incredibly clean and sterile. BIG plus for me.
This place is extremely responsible. Extremely trustworthy.
This is my vet. I have many choices, but this is the only one for me.

Verdict is Still Out - 02/27/2013:
My neighbor highly recommended Dr. Slocum & the Hazel Dell Animal Hospital; as did some of the reviews online. I was slightly skeptical as the most recent review is over a year old. However, I trust my neighbor and this was located close to home so I thought I'd give it a shot. I called and their fees for vaccines was reasonable, $20.

I took my 9-year old Boston, Scooby, in to get his vaccines at 10:00 AM. I did not have an appointment; I was told I wouldn't need one since the Technicians give the vaccines. Well, after looking through the file on Scooby, he was up-to-date until November 2013. However, I decided to have his skin lesions/rash checked out while I was there because we are getting a new puppy real soon and I want to make sure Scooby is healthy too. Plus, as a senior pet he needs to be looked at every 6-months and I let too much time go by since his last visit. Thank God he's healthy:)

Our old vet is Dr. Lynn Spolek at VCA Animal Hospital. However, they have moved across town now; are very expensive; and I had a bad experience with our little Axle, last year that has left me desiring a new Vet. So here we are at Dr. Slocum's.

I finally got taken to the back room at 11:10 AM (remember, I was there at 10:00 AM). The doctor came in at 11:20 AM. Dr. Slocum looked at Scooby, checked his heart rate and lungs (the nurse weighed him and took his temperature, previously). I showed the doctor his red skin patches and a couple scabs; after which, the doctor stated Scooby had a staph infection. He prescribed antibiotics for 5-days; ointment for 7-days; and medicated shampoo treatments.

I'm a little leary because he did not do a blood test nor a scraping sample of the skin. I hope it is what he says it is. I am a little concerned because after researching Canine Staph Infections online, the antibiotics should be for a few weeks . . . not 5-days.

The staff was very friendly; the facility convenient; customers seemed genuinely happy when they came in with their pets, and I got an overall "good" vibe from the place. The staff's pets are very friendly and absolutely gorgeous and fun to watch.

I only give my visit a two-star now because I had to wait 1.5 hours to see a doctor, and I'm not sure the course of treatment will be enough, if indeed Scooby does have Staph. I will update this posting within a week and let you know if Scooby is better or if I had to return to Dr. Slocum's for further treatment.
