Rotton dates, rotton service:
I purchased a $30 three pound bag of jumbo medjools. I've shopped this Sphinx Date Ranch before and felt the dates were the best I'd ever had, even if overpriced, but when I bit into a foul date I couldn't believe it! But I know small businesses have it tough (my husband runs a small business), and humans may overlook trifle mistakes sometimes, so I was not upset until the next rotton date which was worse than the former. After that I checked through half the bag counting at least four more that had what looked like black mold, and smelled repugnant, so to me this was too many thus unacceptable. When I took the bag in the clerk named Hadley denied that dates could even go bad, that "dried fruits" never mold and she insinuated that I was lying. My PARTIAL refund was actually an additional charge on my card! Match price with quality please! With customer service! I am now searching for a new source for good dates, perhaps at the Old Town Farmers Market. Sphinx did not seem interested to make good with me, and I won't support them any longer. Also, this was an avoidable problem with proper quality control. Some people give dates as gifts. I am grateful that I did not fall ill, if not from the mold then from nausia.
