Worst car stereo experience EVER!:
Eddie Bogwardt is a slick, fast-talking 1ST CLASS HUSTLER. He's not even the person who claimed to be "Eddie" that I spoke to when I initially called STARTRONICS. The "Eddie" I talked to on the phone had the voice of a radio spokesman and was very pleasant. The "Eddie" at the garage had a heavy accent (and a bad attitude) but he insisted that he was the "Eddie" I spoke with on the phone. Whatever.
I don't really know what was up with the "pretend I'm Eddie" game & don't really care. He quoted me a price of $150 to rewire my car stereo system & amp, as the previous installers didn't hook up the FADER control when connecting the amp & I didn't feel comfortable letting them work on my car anymore. I felt his $150 price was too high. Eddie said I was paying for his "expertise" in car stereo installation & guaranteed to fix the wiring problem, so I agreed to it. Low & behold, when I came back early to check on my car it was nowhere to be found. He had "farmed out" my rewiring job to somewhere else (so much for "paying for his expertise" lol!). He charges you one price, farms out the work to some other incompetent for a few bucks, then pockets the difference. Typical middle-man ripoff. When I got my car back, the FADER control still doesn't work, and I now no longer have the BALANCE control either, thanks to incompetent miswiring. It is now the FADER control lol! He said I didn't need a BALANCE control (?!?) but I strongly disagreed, as I have always used it when adjusting my speakers. Who doesn't? The BALANCE control is a basic function on ALL stereos. He is the "professional" and my car has the simple, stock Infinity stereo that came with it. Nothing fancy or complicated. He didn't fix the problem I paid him for, he actually let someone else MADE IT WORSE! I should have left the minute I got there and saw all the stacks of garbage piled everywhere is his messy little 1 car garage. MY BAD!
He said he knew he could rewire it correctly if I paid him another $250 and then tried to sell me window tint and a wax job too LOL! I left furious and decided to file a complaint with the BBB. When I got home, I looked at my copy of the invoice and noticed he has written "TROUBLESHOOT DIAGNOSTICS" as the service he provided for $150. This is NOT what we agreed on when I brought my car to him. He said he would rewire & fix the problem. Why on earth would ANYONE pay $150 for "diagnostics"? Like I said, this guy is SLICK. I have been RIPPED OFF and I'm not the only one. AVOID THIS BUSINESS LIKE THE PLAGUE if you value your car! But don't just take my word for it. Read the TONS of other NEGATIVE reviews and HORRIBLE experiences other people have posted on all the numerous car stereo review sites online. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

A name you can trust:
We’ve all been there. Something is wrong with your car and you’re filled with dread. Who’s going to fix it and am I going to get gouged? This was me, just yesterday, when I got into my car and realized my radio was dead. I work in Santa Monica and didn’t know of anyone in the area who could help me out. So I took my chances on-line and got some numbers. With every place I called I was met on the line by some guy with an attitude who made it sound like he was doing me a favor just by talking to me. Finally I called Startronics and, more than anything, decided to go in because the person on the line was very friendly and helpful, without in any way being pushy. When I got there, the owner, Eddie Borgwardt greeted me with a smile, immediately took my information and didn’t make me wait around. Over the course of the day he took it upon himself to stay in touch and give me updates. My car is old and the radio is the original model. Needless to say, the radio couldn’t be fixed, but this was only after Eddie and his great staff worked on it endlessly. After diagnosing the problem, Eddie didn’t try to push me to buy a new model. He told me the diagnosis and all that went into it was on the house. It is this kind of integrity and trust that’s hard to find in any merchant these days. I ended up asking Eddie to install a new system. Again, he didn’t just try to sell me the top model. He first wanted to know just how into my stereo I was, so he could pick out a system that best fit my needs. As it turns out, I really only listen to the radio and don’t need anything fancy. Eddie found a very affordable system that works perfectly for my needs. He charged me cost for the system and took barely anything for his time and labor. He felt bad that my original radio was beyond repair. He was more interested in making a loyal customer out of me than just making a buck. I can’t recommend Startronics any higher.
