We always buy used cars privately, and thought we would try a dealer for the first time. We saw the vehicle we wanted on line and stopped buy to take it for a test drive. The vehicle was everything we were looking for, except the dealer fees.
After the test drive, my wife and I decided we needed to talk about the purchase prior to jumping in. Mark, the sales man said let me run in and grab my card. No big deal, but then he came out with an "assistant manager", Felix. This guy laid the pressure on more than you can believe, it was actually insulting the way he spoke to us. So my wife and I drove off to talk about the vehicle.
We returned a few hours later and met with Mark, and again Felix, as they "ran the numbers"... this took about 30min. Finally we were offered an amount. It was still a bit higher than we had budgeted, and needed to think about it and said we would return as it was over our budget.
We returned the next day, to purchase the vehicle, and began all the paperwork. As we closely inspected the paperwork, the manager, Joe, had increased the price by and additional $500, taking us way out of budget. So we explained to Joe, that the new price was not what we agreed upon the day prior, and he said that we should get out of his store! Yup, thats what we did.
They tried to pull a fast one over us, and in turn they lost our business. We were ready to buy at the agreed upon price and experience buying a car from a dealer and maintaining a relationship with that dealer.
I encourage anyone looking for a vehicle to go elsewhere, as we have done.
