Yes, it has locally sourced eats and brews, a hip vintage look and indie rock tunes on the stereo, but no, it’s not in Brooklyn or downtown Manhattan. Sweet Afton is in Astoria, and if the huge crowds are any indication, its weathered aesthetic (heavy on the exposed brick and reclaimed wood) is working just fine. The bar shares the same emphasis on gourmet pub grub as its sister establishment Wilfie & Nell in the West Village, with a menu including fried pickles sourced from Brooklyn’s McClure’s Pickles and a burger with beef from celeb meat purveyor Pat LaFrieda.

The name Sweet Afton comes from the title of a lyrical poem written by 18th century Scottish poet Robert Burns.

Astorians keep it in the nabe at this "local hot spot", a "relaxed" Irish pub with an "old-world-meets-hipster" vibe sweetened by an "exposed-beam" interior and a "secret garden"; with "reasonably priced drinks" and bar grub to stoke the "good times", it predictably gets "very crowded."
