Description

Sweet Afton is a local Astoria bar. We serve solid drinks and honest locally sourced food. We believe the soul of a bar is its patrons and welcome you to enjoy the warm vibe that is Sweet Afton

Tips

Yes, it has locally sourced eats and brews, a hip vintage look and indie rock tunes on the stereo, but no, it’s not in Brooklyn or downtown Manhattan. Sweet Afton is in Astoria, and if the huge crowds are any indication, its weathered aesthetic (heavy on the exposed brick and reclaimed wood) is working just fine. The bar shares the same emphasis on gourmet pub grub as its sister establishment Wilfie & Nell in the West Village, with a menu including fried pickles sourced from Brooklyn’s McClure’s Pickles and a burger with beef from celeb meat purveyor Pat LaFrieda.

Fun Fact:
The name Sweet Afton comes from the title of a lyrical poem written by 18th century Scottish poet Robert Burns.

Major bar scene here, and the grub is mostly kids' meals made for grown-ups such as the mac 'n' cheese with Muenster and Gruyere. Mostly an evening place, but patrons can pop in for brunch and make their...
