Horrible experience – acupuncture session caused health problems:
I’ve been treated with acupuncture/ Chinese medicine for over a year and found it really helpful for the insomnia that I had. Every once in a while I need to get some acupuncture sessions boost my sleep. I found out that I would get a 25% discount at Terrie Duda Harris’s office under my insurance so I thought I’d give it a try to save some money. When I called, the secretary told me that I’d have to wait over a month to get an appointment with Terrie Duda Harris and was offered to get scheduled in two weeks with Rachel Rizzi who also works in the office and has just as much experience as Terrie. I checked to make sure that she is certified and thought I’d give it a try.

When I came in, we went over my health history and she seemed really nice. I was disappointed to hear however that she did not prescribe herbs since this is an important part of Chinese medicine. Also, when she started to put the needles, she had to leave the room to get the ear chart. These probably were the early warning signs since a professional experienced TCM practitioner would not need to refer to the chart.
So she put all the needles in and after several minutes I get a strange, painful feeling of energy going through my hands and progress to the worse. This has never happened with my prior practitioner. I knew something was wrong and I called her to take the needles out. Right after that my whole body started to tremble uncontrollably. It became obvious to me then that Rachel must have targeted the wrong acupuncture points. I asked the secretary, Jenn, to waive my appointment fee since it went so wrong. She tried to explain to me that I signed a consent paper acknowledging that such things possible. Jenn brought this up to Terrie Duda Harris but she refused at first to waive the fee. In a while after going over the paper, hard talk and my explanation that this is never happened to me with acupuncture and something was not done right, they agreed to waive my fee and told me that they would not schedule me again. Rachel tried to convince me that everything was done right and that if I just drink water, trembling would go away. The trembling was actually lasting for several more hours. The same night I also had a bad heart/ stomach pain.

After this appointment I started to have:
High blood pressure/ heart rate/arrhythmia, fever, severe insomnia, dizziness, anxiety, headaches. After a while some symptoms improved. Also, when I got a flu shortly after this incident, it made my pulsations really bad, I felt really week and was sick for a week. This has never happened to me prior to this acupuncture session.
A few months later, however, I still have heart palpitations, disturbing pulsation in my head. I tried to get acupuncture treatment from my old practitioner but now it gives me some negative effects, increases heart palpitations etc.
Going to Rachel Rizzi at “Terrie Duda Harris’s acupuncture” was no doubt the biggest mistake of my life. I hope no one else hurts their health here.

If you are looking for an experienced TCM practitioner, I can recommend this office www.orientalhealing.net in Cherry Hill and this one www.tcmstrategies.com (Steve Mavros) in Philadelphia. Both of them have previously helped me with my conditions and are some of the top TCM Docs in the area.
