Why Did You Start Your Business?
In 2001, David retired as Director of Marketing, from one of the major cable companies. We had been relocated seven times over the years to different parts of the country during that time, Dee had worked as an assistant controller and controller for different types of corporations from construction, insurance, hospitality, manufacturing, and wholesale distribution, with each relocation picking up critical pieces of information, insights, and skills that would be essential to pass on to small business owners.

After setting many sales records in real estate and individual health insurance, David became a district manager, for the State of Florida, for a regional health insurance company, recruiting and training over 100 health insurance agents.

Our dreams collided after Dee's automobile accident in May of 2004. While still being a controller for one of the largest mechanical contractors in the U.S., Dee had several friends that needed some bookkeeping and accounting.

Dee had become fundamental in making these businesses successful. While on our way to Tampa Florida, to get our youngest son set up in college, at the University of South Florida. Dee's passion for helping small business owners and my passion for sales and marketing melded. On the side of the road, at a rest stop, for $5 real consideration, on the back of a napkin, we each bought 50% of a new company, called The Back Office, LLC.

We still have the napkin and the $5. The dream of The Back Office is to give small business owners the critical information and skills to grow their businesses as big business.

Combining at first, bookkeeping, accounting and health insurance benefits, the dream now encompasses investments, collections, IT support, Human Resources, and all the other mechanisms that small businesses need under one roof, but we didn't stop there. TBO- Making it Simple set the foundation for a new experience for small business owners.

What Makes You Different Than Other Similar Businesses In Your Community?
TBO is a member of over 20 local Chambers of Commerce, business, professional and civic organizations spending and donating approximately 50% of every profit dollar in the communities we service. It is our corporate policy to have one non-profit organization in each are of service that receives either donations or free in kind service. We support animal shelters, community daycare centers, , children's reading programs, injured animal recovery, social service organizations for handicapped adults, abused and battered women's shelters and many more and many more to come.
