This is the real thing, a Victorian summer hotel (1876) on the boardwalk with striped green awnings and crisp white paint. The Chalfonte keeps it simple and friendly. The Chalfonte Hotel, Cape May's enduring Historic Site in the National Historic Landmark City, celebrates her 131st anniversary in 2007. Victorian Cape May's beloved Chalfonte was built in 1876, by Colonel Henry Sawyer, and since that time she has defied conventional definitions of "hotel."
