The Press Room

For more than four decades, The Press Room has been your spot for an afternoon pint and a bite to eat, a night out with friends, and your live music fix. We spent a year repairing, renovating, and making improvements—while staying true to the spirit of the place—to ensure we can create memories here for decades to come. But the most important part of The Press Room isn't the space itself. It's the people that keep coming back, to share a drink or take the stage. It's the community of musicians and artists, performers and listeners, who've made this the place we know and love.

People come from Boston and Portland just to hang out at the Press Room, which showcases folk, jazz, blues, and bluegrass performers nightly.

Locals flock here for the good atmosphere, live music, and easy-on-the-budget prices rather than fancy cuisine. A downtown favorite since 1976, the restaurant boasts that it was first in the area to serve Guinness beer -- and, indeed, the interior has a rustic, Gaelic sort of charm. A popular local pub and eatery, the Press Room also offers casual entertainment almost every night, either upstairs or down. It's best known locally for copious amounts of live jazz; the club brings in quality performers from Boston and beyond. You might hear beat poetry or blues on occasion, too.

This nonprofit shop features goods made by women who are part of development cooperatives in India, Guatemala, Kenya, and other lands. You'll find clothing, jewelry, and accessories; sweaters here are not your average pullovers. Open daily
