I have been attending the women’s self defense classes at Tiger Kim’s Academy for almost a year. I found them challenging, but they were so much fun that I kept going even though they were very difficult for me. Not only have I learned a lot of useful self-defense techniques, but after only a few classes my overall level of physical fitness and alertness improved quite a lot. The classes are still difficult, but not beyond my ability now.
After going to the women’s self-defense classes for about three months, I decided to enroll as a regular student at the Academy and I’ve been taking classes there ever since. When I began studying at Tiger Kim’s, I expected not to be taken seriously because I was so much older than the other students, but I found that I was treated just like everyone else there. The instructors and senior belts are always willing to answer questions or help us work on technique, and every student gets a lot of encouragement. In every class we work on several different things, so it never becomes dull or routine. I particularly like the emphasis on the tenets of Tae Kwon Do and the mental discipline while we are learning the physical skills.
I have progressed much faster than I expected to. My stamina, balance and flexibility continue to improve, and I’ve seen improvement in some of my other skills—for example, my horsemanship is noticeably better than it was before I began studying Tae Kwon Do. I would recommend Tiger Kim’s Academy to anyone who is willing to work hard in the study of martial arts.
