Avoid!:
Went to Tile Outlet to find tile for a small bathroom remodel since their motto is "Always in Stock". We have shopped in a number of tile shops this past week. This was the only business that required a deposit to take a tile sample home. We were quoted $2.79 a sq. foot.

When we went back the next day to order, we were told that it would take two weeks to get the tile in ((so much for Always in Stock) and suddenly the price had been "misquoted" and now jumped to $3.49 a sq. foot. We asked if he would honor his original quote and he said no.

We would never return to this place. In the end, we came out ahead...found the same tile at another location for $1.99 a sq ft.

What a find!:
My first review for yellowbot, and I think the Tile Outlet in Dublin is deserving of a writeup. Just went over there last month to purchase some tiles to redo my bathroom and hallways, and I have to say I was very pleased not only with the selection, in particular with some of the higher-end tiles which were priced very reasonably, but also in particular the service. The owner of the store obviously knows his stuff, and was very helpful with all the particulars regarding my home. Just got it all done this past week, and I must say was a very good experience from start to finish.

Stay away!!!:
We are remodeling our bathroom (this is my first remodel) and we decided to use Thasos white marble tile for the bathtub and shower walls. Before I bought, I asked what would happen if I found damaged tile, and the store manager Barry said not to worry, that if I found any defects they would "take care of it". So I bought 210 sq ft of tile from this store.

When I went to pick up the tile, the store owner Sam pointed me to the rear seat of his pickup truck, which was packed with boxes of the tile I had ordered plus a bunch of other tile. He said his arm was hurting and he couldn't unload his truck, so he wanted me to unload his pickup and take my stuff. I really didn't want to dig my tile from underneath all the other stuff he had there so I offered him a choice of coming back later when he had some more help around, or him dropping it off at my house on his way home. He didn't like either option, saying my home was too far out of the way and he needed to use his truck so he needed it to be unloaded today. After standing there and staring at each other for an awkward minute, he suddenly said "fine!" and turned around and started to unload his truck, clearly p@!%!d that I wouldn't unload it for him. So I went inside the shop to browse around while Sam was loading my tile, and I was surprised when he poked his head in the store and screamed at me "are you going to help me!?". So I went outside and I was surprised to see him taking the styrofoam boxes of tile out of his pickup and literally slamming them down into my SUV, swearing at me from under his breadth as he was doing so. As he was slamming them down, the styrofoam packaging was breaking apart, and one even split wide open spilling the tile out into my SUV. Alarmed, I took out my phone to take pictures, thinking if the tile was damaged I would have proof of mishandling.

We have a licensed contractor doing the work, so far his workmanship seems excellent. When I took the tile home, he laid them out to seal them. As he was laying them out, he pointed out some of the tiles he said were unusable as whole pieces because they had cracks. At first the tiles he was pointing out looked fine to me, but after inspecting them more closely I could see a thin crack running down the tile (it's hard to see because the marble has a very fine white crystalin structure which hides the cracks well). He said that if he put up the tile, water/dirt would seep into the crack and would stain it, and over time the crack may become bigger and would need to be replaced. So he refused to use it saying a year later I would be coming after him for shoddy workmanship. Out of the 210 tiles, he found 78 cracked, chipped, or otherwise damaged tiles, that's about 37% defective.

So I called the Tile Outlet owner Sam and told him of the defective material, and he said that was my problem and that he wouldn't take any returns. He even had the gall to suggest I order more tile from him to make up for the damaged ones! So now I'm stuck with 78 sq. feet of defective tile and I have to order more tile from another vendor to make up for it!

I would urge any homeowner or first time buyer to STAY AWAY from these thieves. Please do no make the same mistake I made! Go somewhere else (Original post - Aug 7, 2009).

UPDATE (Aug 28, 2009) - after giving them poor online reviews and filing and complaint with the BBB, I finally got a refund for the damaged tiles. But then they threatened to sue me for "defamation" because of my poor online reviews. It just reaffirms my opinion of them - STAY FAR AWAY!!!
