I took my car into Todd's automotive for a diagnosis of my transmission. When he called he told me the transmission was fine but I needed the fluid flushed and replaced--$185. He said he did a full diagnostic of the car and listed several items which needed repair. The thing is I already have a mechanic and didn't request anything but a diagnosis of the transmission. For this he charged me $111.00. I called four transmission shops in the area: AAMCO, Tigard Transmission, Tualatin Transmission and Larry Morton's Transmission. None of them charge for a transmission diagnosis. I called my mechanic to see what he would charge to flush and replace my transmission fluid. He said he would charge $45--significantly cheaper than Todd's $185. I mentioned this to Todd and he said, "Your mechanic won't flush it, we do." So I got home and called my mechanic. He laughed. "Of course, we flush the fluid and replace it with new." So if you're okay dealing with a mechanic who will charge you for a diagnosis which other shops do for free, Todd would be a good match for you. If you're good to go with a mechanic who will charge you $185 for a job another mechanic will charge $45, then you'll like doing business with him. I will never return and would urge you to find another shop to do business with. You'd be better off taking your car to Grimm's Auto. Mark is honest and over the years has saved me thousands of dollars. Also, if he's going to charge for a diagnosis, he tells his customers up front. No $111 surprises there.
