Tips

Look Good:
The Monday and Tuesday night shamrock-hanging tradition began in 1950. Ask the bartender for a shamrock; after you've had 15 drinks, you can join the list of sacred Shamrock-holders including Cary Grant, Ronald Reagan and Mr. Tom Bergin himself.

Parking:
Valet's the best way--parking on this busy strip of Fairfax can be a nightmare.

Irish bar:
I'm not into bars, but this one is a classic old time one. They serve food in the back room which is dark and cozy.

Fun Irish Pub:
Tom Bergins is a great Irish pub, sports bar and restaurant. It is a cozy, dark pub on Fairfax, close to the Farmer's Market, Peterman Auto Museum and the County Museum of Art. The food and drinks are good and the people are relaxed and a lot of fun. This is a great place to spend some time with friends or family.

Tom Bergin's Tavern Restaurant Review:
Tom Bergin's Tavern has a new lease on life after being purchased by Derek Schreck, a longtime regular customer. The setting is still that of a classic Irish bar, with dim lighting, plenty of wood paneling and a theme of shamrocks. Along with the famous Irish coffee, there is a menu...

Dating back to 1936, this venerable Mid-City Irish pub has restored its original wood paneling, the horseshoe bar and the cathedral ceiling (its autographed shamrocks remain). It's also introduced a new mixology-driven cocktail list and a midpriced menu of reconceived Irish pub grub like deep-fried chicken skins with blue-cheese dressing and a serious bid for corned-beef greatness.

The Scene
With walls plastered over in years' worth of paper-shamrock tradition, this dark pub is after-work casual and perfect for tossing back pints and watching the game (local sports...

Information from the business

As far as raucous Irish pubs go, Tom Bergin's cannot be beat. Opened in 1936, this jolly tavern has drawn a steady stream of garrulous patrons, young and old alike. Beneath the clusters of paper shamrocks that decorate the ceiling, merry crowds throng around the large bar where lively banter, not ear-shattering music, fills the room. Irish or not, come immerse yourself in the Gaelic hospitality...
