Job Corps is the nation's largest residential education and vocational training program for the economically disadvantaged youth. It is a U. S. Department of Labor program, established in 1964, that provides thousands of students every year with hands-on training in Americas fastest growing careers.
The Treasure Island Job Corps Center is located in the center of San Francisco Bay on Treasure Island. The Bay Bridge that connects Oakland and the City of San Francisco is anchored on the combined Yerba Buena/Treasure Island location. Treasure Island was the site of the World's Fair in the early 1900s and was later converted to military use as a naval base during World War II.
