Robert Schuck and his company rescued us when we discovered that the roof of our Victorian row house was on the verge of collapse in the early summer of 2005. After living in our place for almost twenty years, we had commissioned an independent home inspection and as a result discovered one completely broken roof joist, several badly cracked ones, and many rotted rafters. The roof was in danger of catastrophic failure. The job presented complicated logistical issues. (In a three story residence where the attic is merely a crawl space, do you peel back the exterior roof or go up thru the ceiling to do the repairs? How do you get the heavy equipment and materials up to the 3rd floor?) Several other would-be bidders, including our regular roofer, simply refused to handle the problem at all. Robert got his bid together in short order. When we gave the go-ahead, his crew came in and had the repairs done in less than six weeks. They worked long days in heat that sometimes rose to 106 degrees, efficiently obtained the needed plans and city approvals, and otherwise worked steadily to fix this serious structural problem We pretty much decided then and there that we would not use anyone else for big renovations because we trust Unique Resources to undertake all work with due respect for preserving the structural integrity of these old homes and to handle pre-existing structural problems. We are not be alone in our enthusiasm: Unique Resources was recommended to us by an neighbor who is himself an engineer and the company’s special trucks with the red trim and old fashioned lettering seem to be a permanent fixture in our neighborhood. In fact, we ourselves just used them again this year (winter 2009/10) to do a slew of basement repairs, including interior repointing of large chunks of the foundation and spot repointing of brick. We are very happy with the results Another great aspect of their approach is that they do a terrific job at prep work and protecting living quarters from dust, debris, and so forth—a major plus if, you are already living in a place. Robert Schuck is very knowledgeable and several members of his permanent crew are simply the nicest people—and great at what they do.
