Solid Repair of L1:
I took my boss's L1 camcorder there. Dan was professional and let me know the issues those could have (older ones need many capacitors replaced, a very tedious process and time consuming). Their technician was able to clean out he old ones and replace them. They cound a cracked board and replaced that for nothing as it was not in the beginning estimate.
I got it back a week later and it has worked great ever since! I am so glad they were there. I checked around and not many places can repair to that level. I spent $500 - other estimates were in the $2,000 range as they would have replaced the whole works.
I would recommend this small shop.

Terrible Repair Service for Video Cameras:
Synopsis: Video camera was sent to Video Tech Services, Inc

for repair in July 2007.

Only problem was a lack of being able to record

video....black screen on record. All other camera

functions were perfect. No other symptoms.

Determined by VTS to have a bad CCD chip. Was told by

Dan White two week turn around.

Camera was not returned until September. Upon

return, the LCD screen was completely broken and

did not work at all. Black screen or scrambled

picture. Camera did record and viewfinder worked

but LCD was broken. Unacceptable.

Sent in for a second time on their warranty in

early October when Dan told me he would fix the

LCD under their warranty in two weeks. Email from

Dan here:

10/9/2007 11:41AM Received email from Dan:

Dear Sam

We will repair your camcorder under warrenty

and it will not cost you nothing.

We will get your camcorder back to you

within 2 weeks after we recieve your camcorder.

Thank You

Camera shipped back to them on:

Shipped 10/9/2007

USPS

Insured Receipt VH 163 936 246 US

Signature Conf No: 2306 3250 0000 7981 0523

Almost a month later.....

On 11/7 Dan White told me he shipped the camera

on 11/6 on USPS tracking number 0305 0830 0000 5182 5633

When checked, this tracking number was bogus.

When I called on 8 November to tell him

the number was not in the USPS tracking

system, I asked him to repeat the number

again and he then told me this number:

0305 0830 0000 5182 5749

This number was also bogus.

On 11/8 Almost a month later....no camera.

On 11/10 when confronted with two bogus tracking numbers

Dan White admitted he lied to me about both numbers and gave me a number

which finally was legitimate and I received the camera

the next day.

Paid $350 for all this.

Ongoing Problem: The LCD screen is miscolored and only operates

intermittently.

Conclusion: Video Support Services has a horrible record with the BBB

and I am one of many consumers complaining about their shoddy

service. Since my camera was actually further damaged (LCD) by them

trying to repair it, and it still has

problems not present prior to their "repair"

I don't believe I should be liable

for their charges and I am disputing them. I am also considering exploring their use of bogus

USPS tracking numbers to see if this is a case of mail fraud.
