My daughter was at the Village earlier this year and it was a terrible experience. She was not progressing well and the staff failed to address this or change her treatment plan and only made a few last minute changes when our insurance denied further coverage and during the appeal process. The website and what the staff tells you are quite different than what actually is done at this place. Most of the staff seemed very incompetent and they lied to us. Physical fights between patients and frequent elopement is a common occurrence there. The patients spent more time watching tv in their cabins then doing actual treatment work. When my child was physically sick, they failed to address it until I spoke up. No one seemed to have their stories straight and communication was poor. When my child was repeatedly attacked by another patient, they blamed it on my daughter, and I had to request that she be moved to another cabin. Most of the staff was very unprofessional. My daughter witnessed many instances of staff playing favorites, staff gave cigarettes to patients, staff sat by playing on their phones while patients were snorting their pills in the tv room of the cabin. Prior to discharge, they made a last minute change with one of my daughters meds, she had side effects, which included suicidal thoughts, and no one reported it to me. Her provider, a nurse practitioner, did not seem to know what she was doing and at discharge, I was the one who caught the medication mistakes. She was there for 8 weeks, and only attended 1 or 2 treatment team meetings, which we were told would be weekly, but later told it was bi weekly. She was discharged prematurely, as we were denied further coverage. Four months later, my daughter again attempted suicide and was readmitted to our local psychiatric hospital. I work in mental health and am appalled at how the Village is run. It is extremely run down and the patient cabins were not kept well. This place does have potential if their administration would run it the way it should be, train their staff correctly, hire competent staff, follow the plans they say they have in place, properly communicate, and address all the blatant safety concerns. I would never recommend this place to anyone and would never send my child there again.
