A native Illinoisan, Dr. Watson graduated as Valedictorian in 1978 from LaMoille High School. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University and graduated with honors at the top of his class in 1982. An avid athlete, he also established numerous track and field records while attending college. He was also voted to the Academic All-American Football team his junior & senior years as a defensive-back.
