Not good business for money or safety:
June 2014- I called Worden’s Custom Cycle in Canal Fulton Ohio, to have my front and back tires changed on my Ultra Classic. I told him I already had two brand new front and back D402’s; I asked if he had new tubes to install with these tires. Worden replied that he had new tubes at a cost of $20 per tube. Worden installed both front and rear tires and when I picked up my bike, he told me I needed back brakes and he went ahead and installed them as well. I told him that he just installed back brakes on my bike 7500 miles ago. He showed me some rusted out old brakes with no pads left on the metal, and said they came from my bike. Now, I had no issues with my brakes and they were not grinding into the rotor, if those rusted brake pads Worden showed me were on my bike. (If they were on my bike, they would have been grinding into my rotor).
The day after I picked up my bike from Worden’s, I rode up to Geneva on the lake and my front tire blew a flat just as I arrived. I walked my bike to Goblin Custom Cycle, where they repaired the flat. Goblins examined the front tire and determined nothing had penetrated the tire to cause the flat, he also informed me the tube that was in my front tire was pinched when installed, and had rust all over it. I examine the tube and indeed it was covered with rust; even the valve stem nut was rusted. Clearly, this wasn’t a new tube that Worden stated he installed on my bike as new. (And charged me $20). Dwayne Bennett owner of Goblin, agreed a used tube was installed on my bike.
September 2014- I was on a Road Trip down south and when I arrived in Tupelo Mississippi my rear tire went flat. Now I only rode 1500 miles since Worden’s replaced both front & rear tires and tubes. I called Tupelo Powersports to tow my bike to their shop to repair the flat. I watched as the technicians broke the rear tire bead, and pulled out the tube. I immediately noticed the rust around the tube and when the technician attempted to put air in the tube, the valve stem broke away from the tube. Phil (Tupelo Powersports) proceeded to examine the rear tire to determine if an object penetrated the tire. Phil determined nothing penetrated the tire causing the flat. Phil stated the tube was worn and showed me a wear hole in the tube. I replied, that I had a new tube installed in that tire 1500 miles ago. Phil and another technician stated, the tube was not new or near new. Clearly, this tube was a used tube Worden’s installed and charged me $20 as new. I also looked inside of my rim which had no rust inside.
The bottom line is Worden’s put used tubes in my front and rear tires and charged me $40 for new. If it wasn’t for the flat tires, I would have never of known that Worden installed used tubes on my bike. Both times when I confronted Duane Worden, he stated he didn’t think he installed used tubes on my bike. I stated, why install used tubes on any bike? He had no reply. I also questioned the rear brakes he said he installed, because I’ve never needed rear brakes on any of my bikes until 30,000 or more miles and here he is installing rear brakes again with only 7500 miles on the brakes. I’ve been riding over 40 years and had many bikes and never had an experience like this.
How can you trust someone to work on your bike, who puts money ahead of your safety and their work ethic? From now on, I’ll pay more money to a reputable dealership than go through having used parts installed on my bike and charged as if they were new.
You determine for yourself, but do you really know what you’re paying for?
